POEM

TASTEFUL

An elegant wineglass
evokes a certain response:
with one hand
pinching the slender stem
the other
forms thumb and forefinger
into a six,
and flicks the glass flower’s rim.

Often there is disappointment,
as when there is no fragrance.

What one desires
is the clear ring of sound
that sings almost for ever,
and creates its own bouquet.
